Dr Christos Evangelidis, Associate Researcher at National Observatory of Athens (NOA). He holds a PhD in Geophysics/Seismology from the National Oceanography Center, University of Southampton (U.K.) and a M.Sc. in Advanced Geophysics from the University of Durham (U.K.). He was a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Southampton (U.K.) and a visiting researcher in the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, University of California, San Diego (U.S.A). He is responsible of NOA broadband seismic network and the daily operation of the corresponding computing center. He is in charge of the NOA European Intergrated Data Archive (EIDA) National Node. He has been involved, participated and coordinated many European and national research projects. He has an extensive fieldwork experience in broadband and strong motion seismic station installations and has participated in seismic exploration research cruises. He participates in European Executive Committees, Boards and Initiatives that coordinate and promote seismology in the Europe.
EPOS, the European Plate Observing System, is a long-term plan to facilitate integrated use of data, data products, and facilities from distributed research infrastructures for solid Earth science in Europe. EPOS vision is that the integration of the existing national research infrastructures will increase access and use of the multidisciplinary data recorded by the solid Earth monitoring networks. The establishment of EPOS will foster worldwide interoperability in the Earth sciences and services to a broad community of users. Through EPOS, innovative multidisciplinary research is made possible for a better understanding of the physical processes controlling earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, unrest episodes and tsunamis as well as those driving tectonics and Earth surface dynamics. It will establish a long-term plan to facilitate the integrated use of data, models and facilities from existing, and new distributed research infrastructures and adopt the appropriate legal solutions to manage distributed pan European Research Infrastructures, securing on a common and shared data policy the open access and the transparent use of data. HELPOS is the coordination effort for existing Greek facilities and services at national level. It is an initiative to integrate the currently scattered, but highly advanced, National Greek facilities into one distributed and coherent multidisciplinary Research Infrastructure.
