George C. Spyropoulos MSc, Mechanical Engineer, Laboratory Teaching Staff in the Soft Energy Applications & Environmental Protection Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of West Attica in Athens, Greece. His research interests, experience and expertise are mainly focused on photovoltaics and RES-based energy systems, sustainable development, policy related issues, air pollution, electric mobility services and infrastructure. His research experience may be validated by his participation in many National research projects and co-authorship of 32 peer-reviewed Journals and National and International conferences. He is the co-author of book "Computional Applications of Renewable Energy - Solar Energy, Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Systems", published by Stamoulis. Furthermore, recently in 2015, he developed the first autonomous photovoltaic powered electric vehicle charging station in Greece, in University of West Attica.
The presentation is based upon data obtained from the operation of the multifunctional autonomous and grid connected, solar EV charging station located at the Soft Energy Applications and Environmental Protection Laboratory of University of West Attica. The said installment, constitutes a realistic materialization of a project incorporating renewable energy sources, electric vehicles, smart grids and measurements instruments. Renewable sources dominated fueling of electric vehicles through similar installations widely recognized as the leading option for decarbonizing the transport sector while covering the future needs of this steadily and fast expanding sector. The proposed Solar EV Charging Station is one of the most environmental friendly solutions able to support the country’s effort towards the infrastructure development and strengthening electro-mobility field.
