Nanomaterials have emerged as one of the most significant technologies in recent years applied on early stage diagnosis, controlled release of drugs and treatment, creating a new hot field on the domain of nanotechnology called nanomedicine. Polymers and biopolymers are used in drug delivery in micro and nano dimensions based on their structure, physicochemical characteristics and interactions with the biological substrates. Nanostructured delivery systems induce specific drug release by exploiting the local physicochemical disease characteristics. Delivery systems that are newly developed aiming at targeting on different diseases are polymer-small conjugates, polymer micelles, dendrimers, nanogels and hollow micro-nanospheres.
