Dr Georgios K.D. Saharidis Georgios K.D. Saharidis received his Diploma in Production Engineering and Management from the Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, in 2001. He received his MSc and PhD in Supply Chain Management from Ecole Centrale Paris, France in 2002 and 2006, respectively.
Currently, he is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Thessaly. Dr. Saharidis specializes in developing models, optimization methods and decision support systems for large-scale problems arising in transport, environmental, industrial, civil and chemical & biochemical engineering. He has worked on different research projects focusing on transportation (passenger and freight), supply chain, emission calculation, and production scheduling.
He has developed a number of custom-made algorithms and software, which are currently used and are available at PML-UTH, Greece and CAIT-FMP, USA.
His research has led to a number of unique solutions approaches that open new opportunities in the area of mathematical programming and special game theory, hierarchical, multi-objective and bi-level optimization. He has developed novel acceleration methods for the Benders decomposition algorithm and bi-level optimization which have been applied in different engineering problems.
Dr. Saharidis is the coordinator of GreenYourMove EU funded project (total budget 1.245.052 Euro) which has as an objective the development and promotion if a co-modal journey planning platform to minimize GHG emissions in Europe (www.greenyourmove.org). He has also been Marie Currie fellow (Career Integration Grants) where the main outcome of the project (www.GreenYourRoute.com project) was to develop an online platform for the solution of green travelling salesman problem.
Dr. Saharidis has 23 publications in scientific journals with more than 280 citations in Scopus.
Dr. Saharidis is an active reviewer for 10 scientific journals in the fields of operations research, transportation engineering, information systems and industrial engineering, whereas he is the guest editor of four special issues in the field of operations research (ANOR and COR) and transportation (IJISSCM and IJORIS).
