Mr. Panos Scarlatos is a freelance consultant who has been serving HACI for more than 19 years as a member of its board, as president and currently he is its director general.
He has an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the National and technological University of Athens.
He has great experience in the chemical industry sector, including:
* 27 years working experience in chemical industry sector (paints and varnishes, detergents) in many various positions of responsibility such as production manager, safety and environment manager, project manager, plant manager and technical director;
* owning a business consultancy firm SUSTCHEM Engineering Ltd, whose activities are related to design and operation of industries;
* being involved in the procedures of adaptation of many environmental EU directives and regulations and also studying their possible impacts on Greek enterprises;
* working as a technical consultant of the Greek government and participated as a member of the Greek delegation in the 22nd UNEP Nairobi where it has been established a global administration policy of chemicals until 2020;
* having an excellent knowledge of the EU chemicals legislation, as he has managed the project to assess the impacts of REACH regulation to Greek industry;
* being the president of the administration board of the Educational and Scientific Centre of the Greek Chemical Engineers, where he promoted trainings for numerous chemical engineers and chemists in various subjects related to climate change, energy efficiency, environmental policy, waste management, dangerous goods transportation, chemicals legislation (REACH and CLP regulation);
* being involved in many research and development projects (implementation and dissemination activities) related to waste management, chemical risk management, environmental environment policy and governance.
His main tasks in HACI are to:
* serve as its director general;
* represent HACI in Cefic;
* operational support of HACI REACH Helpdesk;
* set up vocational training programs for chemical industry professionals; and
* organise workshops to inform and/or mobilise chemical industry in chemical risk management, waste management, environmental and safety legislation, and energy efficiency.
