Dr. Hab. Emeric Frejafon obtained in 1995 master & engineer degrees in applied physic (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France), obtained in 1999 his PhD in the field of optical techniques dedicated to environmental monitoring (University of Science, Lyon-France) and then obtained in 2012 his Habilitation / Accreditation to supervise research, the highest academic qualification a scholar can achieve. He obtained awards on metrology for nanomaterials (2011 from the French publications “La Recherche”, 2013 from the French National Industrial Property Institute). He is involved in several patents on metrology and nanotechnology, authors in more than 40 peer review articles and chapter of books and chairman of several international conferences.
He is working since 2000 at INERIS, the French National Institute in charge of Industrial and Environmental risk assessment. From 2000 to 2009 he worked as project manager in the field of air quality, was research program leader in optical technique for environmental monitoring (LIDAS, LIBS, SODAR, FTIR, atomic and molecular spectroscopy) and was expert for the “G8” Global Partnership for Cooperative Threat Reduction Agreement. Since 2009 he is the Scientific Deputy of the Chronic Risk Division involving 150 engineers and researchers on activities like (eco) toxicology, environmental fate, metrology, air quality prediction, waste/soil management.
Since 2012 he is the head of INERIS activities related to Nanotechnologies Risk Assessment & safety enhancement, involving more than 30 people and 10 PhD students in activities such as physical-chemical characterization, hazard characterization ((eco) toxicology, explosibility, flammability), life cycle studies, waste management, metrology at the process, workplace and in the environment, risk analysis and risk management but also on socio-economic analyses, training and voluntary certification schemes (worker, workplace). He is involved in several European projects and he is the coordinator of the H2020 NMP26 NanoREG II project involving 38 partners from 10 countries and addressing Safer By Design and Safe innovation tools and methods.
He is the convenor of the CEN TC 352 “Nanotechnologies” WG1 “measurement, characterization & evaluation”, expert in ISO TC 229, OECD WPMN & WPRPW and member of the scientific comity of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Tire Industry Projects.
