Short Bio

Fotis Katsaros is born in Athens (1969). He graduated from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, obtaining the Degree in Chemistry (1991). He joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR “Demokritos”, and received a Scholarship (1993). He obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2000). He worked as researcher (contract) for the Materials and Membranes for Environmental Separations Laboratory of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR “Demokritos”. During the period 2001-2006 he was permanent scientist in Demokritos. In 2006 he was elected as Researcher in the institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR “Demokritos”. Since 2009 he is a Senior Researcher. He is now member of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. His current research interests focus in: a) Preparation of porous nanostructure materials and nanocomposites, b) Characterisation of nanomaterials using both static and dynamic techniques as well as novel “in-situ” methodologies, c) Performance evaluation of nanomaterials in environmental applications, including sorption processes, membrane technology, catalysis, separation in gas and liquid phase and gas storage. He is also co-author in 43 publications in peer reviewed journals. During his 20-years research, he has been involved in about 15 European and National research projects. Dr. F. Katsaros is currently the coordinator of the NEXT-GEN-CAT project (FP7-NMP-2011-SMALL-5) for the development of novel PGM free auto-catalysts. He also participates to Critical Raw Materials and Catalysis Clusters of the EC.
