Short Bio

Prof. Mavrakos is Deputy Rector of NTUA (2014-), Professor of Floating Structures in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (1996-), NTUA, Director of the Laboratory for Floating Structures and Mooring Systems (2005-) and Director of the Post-Graduate Course on Marine and Ocean Technology and Science (1998 - ) in the same University. He is member of the EUOAG (European Oil and Gas Authorities Group, 2012-); he served as chairman in the ad hoc Committee of the Ministry for Energy, Environment and Climate Change for the transposition of the EU Directive for the safety of offshore oil & gas operations into the Greek law. Prof. Mavrakos got his Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from NTUA in 1976, his Dr-Ing. Degree on hydrodynamics of Offshore Structures from the RWTH – Aachen, Germany, 1981. From 1984 is Faculty member in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, NTUA. He has been visiting professor in the Ocean Engineering Department, MIT (1992) and in the TU Berlin (2010). Since 1988 is member of the International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress and is author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications in international journals and conferences.
