He spent 7 years (2007-2014) working at the Economic Office of the Greek Embassy in Washington, DC, USA, and brings extensive experience in a wide range of fields and activities: from organizing trade promotion campaigns to supporting companies in their export activities; from conceiving, designing and hands-on implementing divers projects to chairing roundtable discussions; from drafting speeches, keynotes and official documents to PR and public diplomacy, and many more.
During his tenure in Washington he has focused increasingly on providing soft-landing advice, coaching and business development support to technology-driven startups in the most competitive market in the world, that of the United States. He serves as biz dev advisor (pro bono) with various Greek tech startups going global.
He instigated and co-organized several road shows and exhibits of Greek tech startups and spin-offs in the US, both individually and en bloc, the latest being the Greek Pavilion of 16 Greek companies presenting and networking at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive 2014 in Austin, Texas.
In 2014 one Greek-interest startup from his pipeline received funding (seed) by an angel investor from Babis’ network in the US.
After his assignment in the US was over Babis returned to Athens, Greece where he works at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He continues his active involvement with innovative and extrovert entrepreneurship, and his efforts in support of the Greek tech startup ecosystem.
