Short Bio

Evi Dodou is a freelance consultant in Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property, and the representative of the Dutch patent firm V.O. in Greece. She holds a Diploma in Biology from the University of Athens and a Ph.D. from the University of London. After post-doctorate studies at the University of Oregon and UCSF, she worked as an executive in Medexis S.A./PNG Gerolymatos (2006-2011), where she was involved in the development, IP protection and commercialization of new diagnostics and chemical entities, and Biovista S.A (2011-2014) focusing on the identification of new commercial opportunities for already approved drugs.


Presentation Title: How to protect your invention: From non-disclosure to strategic management


Abstract

This short presentation starts by dealing with the basic considerations before filing a patent application, such as disclosure issues, patentability requirements and prior art searches. It then moves on to explain the structure of a patent, the process, timelines and approximate costs of the different procedures that exist for patent protection. Lastly, it touches on the strategic decisions a researcher or company needs to make before and during the whole lifetime of a patent in order to make the most of its benefits.
