Dr. Georgios Romanos George Romanos was born in Athens-Greece and studied Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (1988-1994). In 1995 he joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the National Center for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ (NCSRD) as a fellow postgraduate student. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (1995-2000) from the National Technical University of Athens (School of Chemical Engineering). In 2006, he was elected as Associate Researcher and from 2015 he is Research Director in NCSRD. His main activities are in the area of porous materials functionalization/characterization and evaluation of their performance in gas adsorption, gas separation and catalytic/photocatalytic applications.

The presentation describes current trends and best practices for the development and characterisation of Supported Ionic Liquid Phase systems (SILPs) targeting gas separation applications.The advantages and drawbacks of SILPs are explained in relation to their properties and the specific gas separation application and an overview of the most efficient materials is presented, gathering information from the recent literature and the work done at NCSR “Demokritos”.The presentation includes also our perspectives for future applications of these highly innovative materials.
