Presentation Title: Hellenic Space Industry, going through a technology maturity level with great future growth potentials

Abstract

Space is a leading strategic global market encompassing very high technical and economic risks; it requires substantial investment and a great effort especially from the new countries entering this sector, which justifies the important role played by public authorities and governments. The growth and evolution of the global economy has pushed an ever increasing number of countries and organizations to invest in space capabilities and infrastructures while also recognizing the geo-political aspects of space as well. In this context, the optimal allocation of resources, maintenance of transparency and rationalization of expenditure, as a whole, plays an important role in technological development and competitiveness. The space sector is a driving force for broader and stronger international partnerships that lead to growth, employment and competitiveness in many sectors of the economy. This is a “market” of $90 billion worldwide, which in recent years is growing at about 7% per annum. In this environment, Hellenic Space Industry successfully utilized the decision of the Greek Government to join European Space Agency back in 2005 as well as a number of additional European Union and National (mainly defense and security led) space programs in order to develop a strong industrial base. Currently and almost after a decade of activities on space products and services, Hellenic Space Industry is entering into a maturity level where local companies and research institutes are equally participating on European and International space technology and reteach consortiums while in parallel a small but with high growth potential number of Greek industries are widely recognized as “technology leaders” on specific space technological areas.Already develop strong international collaboration bonds with world leaders on space technologies like Airbus, Thales, Rafael, Sitael and Lockheed Martin, provide the necessary base to further enhance the cooperation including new space technologies and products.    Today, Hellenic Space Industry can provide space proven products, services and engineering capabilities technological areas like sensors, on board software, flying hardware, MEMS technologies, composite materials and remote sensing applications.
