Prof. Dimitri V. Nanopoulos He was born in Athens. He studied Physics at the University of Athens and he graduated in 1971. He continued his studies at the University of Sussex in England, where he got his Ph.D. in 1973, in High Energy Physics. He has been a Research Fellow at the Center of European Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland and for many years he has been a staff member. He has also been a Research Fellow in Ecole Normale Superieure, in Paris, France and in Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. In 1989, he was elected professor at the Department of Physics, at Texas A&M University where since 1992 he is a Distinguished Professor of Physics and since 2002 he holds the Mitchell/Heep Chair in High Energy Physics. He is also Head of the Astroparticle Physics Group in Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), in Houston, Texas, USA, where he is in charge of a research department of the World Laboratory, which is based in Switzerland. In 1997 he was appointed regular member and in 2015 he became president of the Academy of Athens. He has served as the National representative of Greece to the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) from 2005 to 2010 and again from 2013 until today.
Dimitri Nanopoulos has made several contributions to particle physics and cosmology. He works in string unified theories, fundamentals of quantum theory, astroparticle physics and quantum-inspired models of brain function.
He has written over 650 original papers, all published in peer-reviewed journals, with high impact factor, including 14 books. He has over 41.000 citations (h_index=99). In 2006 he received the “Onassis International Prize” and in 2009 the “Enrico Fermi” Prize.
